I am participating in the first Metrowaves event, which is part of the Notch 2011 festival. Metrowaves is a new platform aiming to facilitate “encounters” between creators, promoters, and consumers of electronic music in Beijing. The platform was initiated by one of the prime movers of Tresor Beijing and has a strong techno inflection: the night portion of the event (at Haze) will feature a party with sounds furnished by locals Dead J and ME:MO as well as German DJs lawrence and Efdemin.

However, Metrowaves is about moving beyond traditional or segregated conceptions of electronic music, which is why I and Zhang Shouwang (whose solo work and duo White+ veer more and more toward the electro side) were invited to take part in an afternoon discussion at an abandoned warehouse in Dashilar.

On 30 September 2011, Lawrence and Efdemin from the famous German electronic music label Dial Records are invited by Tresor.Beijing to join METROWAVES’ one-day music event and perform with the three outstanding Beijing-based electronic music producers.

2011年9月30日，德国著名电子音乐厂牌Dial Records的艺术家Lawrence及Efdemin受北京电子音乐机构Tresor.Beijing的邀请来到北京参与METROWAVES“城际声浪”为期一天的音乐交流活动，并与北京最耀眼的几位电子音乐制作人共同演出。

In the afternoon, METROWAVES transforms an architectural space of a small abandoned factory where NOTCH Festival 2011 takes place. Different from electronic dance music parties often seen in the city, METROWAVES offers live performances, documentary screening, and space to meet and talk. METROWAVES focuses on the presentation of music itself and audiences’ experience of listening and enjoying to non-danceable music.

30日下午，”城际声浪”临时改造今年NOTCH艺术节所在地，大栅栏一间废弃工厂内的建筑空间。区别于常见的电子音乐派对活动，这里提供丰富的现场音乐演出、放映、交流活动，着重呈现音乐本身，关注对于非跳舞音乐的聆听体验。

Live performance of German artists Lawrence, Efdemin, plus Chinese artists Me:mo, and Dead J whose new album “Ting Tai Lou Ge” is to be released soon will be presented. METROWAVES also presents the premiere of the documentary “Date” directed by Dead J, in which he interviewed eight German electronic musicians during his visit in Berlin – Monolake, Manuel Göttsching, Thomas Fehlmann, Jan Jelinek, Pole, Porn Sword Tobacco, Thaddi Herrmann, and Christopher Bauder. Audiences are offered a chance to talk with the people behind METROWAVES, Pangbianr, White+, and The Haze.

两位德国艺术家Lawrence、Efdemin，及中国艺术家Me:Mo和即将发行新专辑《亭台楼阁》的Dead J在这里进行现场音乐演出。”城际声浪”会正式首映Dead J导演的纪录片《Date》，片中记录了对Monolake、Manuel Göttsching、Thomas Fehlmann等8位著名德国电子音乐艺术家的采访。同时也为参与者提供与多家北京先锋活动组织方面对面交流的机会。

In the night, METROWAVES moves to The Haze (successor of legendary club White Rabbit) for a night of DJ performance with Lawrence, Efdemin, and the Beijing-based electronic music producer X.L.F.

晚上，”城际声浪”移阵至The Haze俱乐部，它的前身为知名先锋地下俱乐部“白兔”，Lawrence及Efdemin与著名北京电子音乐制作人X.L.F.共同进行DJ演出。

METROWAVES’s formats and venues for electronic music are rare in Beijing.

不论这12个小时活动的形式，还是场地形态，”城际声浪”在北京的电子音乐活动中都是少见的。
