New Jams: Boys Climbing Ropes & X is Y, “Summer and Winter Warfare”
By Josh, 2011年 11月 19日
A while back I featured a new jam from X is Y and mentioned they were working on a split EP with fellow Shanghai-sters Boys Climbing Ropes. Well, that split is here, almost. They just had a Shanghai release party at Yuyintang and both bands will be coming up to Beijing in early December with their new CD in tow. Recorded in practice rooms and produced by Shanghai’s go-to audio mastermind Brad Ferguson, the split features 3 songs apiece and is called Summer and Winter Warfare.
Read a great interview with Boys Climbing Ropes over on Layabozi (which you should RSS if you haven’t already), read Andy Best’s recap of the Shanghai release show and his remarks on X is Y’s maturation as a band, and check pangbianr’s previous interview with X is Y for more background. I feel like a broken record saying this but Shanghai has some great DIY music happening and we need to give them a welcoming reception in Beijing. So please go support these two excellent bands. BCR and X is Y are playing on Friday, December 2 at D-22 with Streets Kill Strange Animals and Me Too, and again the following night at Yugong Yishan with CAssette. Stream some songs from the new release and watch a video of X is Y live in the practice room below the flyer:

I’d never seen that Never Sever video. It’s tight.
