Kid Millions Returns to Beijing for Maybe Noise “Winter Gathering”

It’s been a long time (like about 5 years?) coming, but Zhang Shouwang (Carsick Cars/White+) and Yan Yulong (Chui Wan) are rebooting the Maybe Noise sub-label, an outgrowth of Maybe Mars attached to some of the label’s more experimental-leaning releases (like this vintage Zoomin’ Night comp) that’s been defunct since before D-22 became a pizza place. The idea they have, as I understand it, is to put out a slow drip of Modern Classical and New Music compositions, beginning with a recording of their duo work Píng Zè, which they’ve performed at the last few Sally Can’t Dances and set on record earlier this year.

There will also be an event component, beginning with a “Winter Gathering” the label will host in mid-December. Guest of honor is the great percussionist and composer Kid Millions, who blew minds and maybe a few eardrums with his Man Forever ensemble in Beijing and Shanghai just a bit over 3 years ago.
